Kayla Lindquist

Program Director and Developer

Hi! My name is Kayla. I was born and raised in Northern Illinois and spent my childhood exploring the outdoors. At age 13 I was gifted my first camera and have been taking photos ever since. Most of the photos on this site are taken by me, you can see more of my work here: www.kaylalindquistphotography.com

I am a junior at Central College studying environmental science. During a class called Environmental Seminar, students were assigned to create a proposal that offers some kind of sustainable benefit to the community. For my project I chose to start a program that seeks to reconnect humans to nature. Thus, C2N was born. (C2N is a common abbreviation used in research articles and books, so it should be noted that she did not originally create that label.) During my years at Central I have learned a lot about environmental concerns as well as human health related issues. Having been captivated by the relationship between the two, I realized the importance in finding solutions. I also noticed that there was an abundance of knowledge out there about the human-nature connection, but not a whole lot of it was actually being implemented. So after absorbing (almost too much) information, I have gotten tired of twiddling my thumbs and want to start acting. It is not my mission to make some dramatic change, but rather smaller impacts that cause a long-lasting ripple effect.

My favorite topics to discuss are ecopsychology, the nervous system, philosophy, c-PTSD, conservation, natural history, human behavior, photography and general ecology concepts. I love to ramble the importance of language and storytelling, as well as the relationship between scientific objectivity and emotional subjectivity.
